Maria Kirilenko
The WTA has no problem, it seems, promoting their players as great athletes, which they are, and fashionable young women, which they also are. One wonders about where the line blurs and where selling looks goes too far. I was a little surprised when I saw this was a WTA sponsored video. But as they seem to have no problem with it, I figured since I post the LPGA videos, I should do the same with the WTA videos. In fact, I saw this a few days ago and debated whether to post it. Maria Kirilenko is one of a host of Russian stars dominating the WTA. She has 5 career WTA singles victories and is a top 20 player when she is at her best. Her last win was in 2008 but she did finish as a runner up at the Kremlin Cup this year, falling to Victoria Azarenka of Belarus in the final. However, she teamed up with Azarenka to win a doubles title at the Cincinnati Masters, one of Kirilenko’s two doubles titles this year (the other one won with China’s Zheng Jie at the Mercury Insurance Open) and 8 career doubles titles overall.
