Top seeded Serbia continued to roll in their second match-up at Hopman Cup. Ana Ivanovic was fit and strong in a bagel-inducing 6-4 6-0 dismantling of Australia’s Alicia Molik. World #3 Novak Djokovic followed Ana’s success with a 6-2 6-4 win of his own over former #1 Lleyton Hewitt. Djokovic broke in the sixth game of the first set to go up 4-2 and cruise from there. Hewitt tightened things up in the second, staying on serve until the ninth game, which was all Djokovic would need to close the show. The match was highlighted by a 27 shot rally.
“It was a big unlucky for me in the end, but that’s tennis, it was a great point. To be honest even though the result looks like a comfortable win, I had to work for my points and it was a long match,” Djokovic said.
“It was a difficult encounter, I was aware of that. Anywhere you play Lleyton, especially in Australia, you are always going to get a very difficult one.
“But I played great from the start of the match, especially the end of the first set and the beginning of the second I was playing some of the best tennis that I’ve played in this year and a half.”
