A great article on Morgan Pressel and her foundation’s 2011 fund-raising event by Edgar Thompson:

My only real response is tremendous pride that the LPGA has a star in Morgan Pressel who uses her celebrity and connections to do work in the real world that makes a difference between life and death potentially for a lot of women. Bravo, Morgan!

…a few excerpts…

On Wednesday, Pressel’s foundation raised $502,000 at her event, for a total of $1.7 million in four years. The proceeds come from her sponsors and tournament participants, many of them from St. Andrews, where Pressel grew up and now owns a home.

Pressel’s foundation also will kick off “Bucks for Birdies,” in which a person contributes money for every birdie by Pressel. She made 292 in 2010.

In the past year, the MammoVan has tested more than 1,000 women, including 875 who had never had a mammogram.

“If those 87 percent hadn’t happened to see the MammoVan when they were out and about shopping or when it came to their office, they might never have been tested,” Pressel said. “And 35, 40 of those women needed follow-up care.

As I mentioned, this is very serious. Mammograms save lives.

Also mentioned in the article, Morgan had Lasik eye surgery. This is not uncommon for athletes. I hope there are no complications and all went well.
