Marion Bartoli Routs Former #1 Dinara Safina In Opening Moorilla Hobart International Match

Marion Bartoli

Matches like these are difficult to watch. I was one who never thought that Dinara Safina was a #1 in the same way Serena or Justine had been. But she was, for a time, atop the WTA rankings, winning lots of tournaments. To see how far she’s fallen is difficult to watch. She was a very powerful player at one time. To lose 6-0 6-1 to Marion Bartoli is would have been unimaginable a few years ago.  Bartoli was gracious and respectful after easily winning her opening Moorilla Hobart International match, speaking of Safina pushing her during rallies.  Maybe so, but Safina won one out of thirteen games.

I hope that Safina can find her game soon. Ana Ivanovic has started to rebound since tumbling down the rankings from the top spot, so Safina can do it too. If she really wants to.
