At the 2011 Sony Ericsson Open, Andrea Petkovic played the perfect style to upset Caroline Wozniacki, mixing a patient variety of shots to keep the world #1 off-balance. At the 2011 Porsche Tennis Grand Prix, Wozniacki was ready for Petkorazzi, dispatching the rising German star, 6-4 6-1. But it wasn’t as easy early in the match as the score suggests. Petkorazzi jumped out to a 4-1 double break lead, and had the opportunity on several points to push it to 5-1, but Caroline did what a great player does, never give up, even down two breaks to a another great player. From 1-4 down in the first, Caroline won 10 straight games to go up 6-4 5-0 before Andrea stopped the bleeding with a service hold for 5-1. But it was a brief respite as Caroline closed her the next game.
Also advancing were Samantha Stosur, Agnieszka Radwanska and Julia Goerges. Stosur scored a mild upset of Vera Zvonareva. Samantha has not had the kind of year that her results in 2010 might have suggested. Perhaps a big win over Zvonareva will be the spark to get the 2010 French Open finalist going in 2011. Next up for Samantha will be Goerges, whose semifinal appearance will be her first in a Premier event.
