Jim Courier, Andy Roddick, Mardy Fish, Mike Bryan, Bob Bryan
In 2010, a Novak Djokovic led Serbian Davis Cup team snapped Spain’s two year run as champion. Now the 2008 & 2009 champion looks to ascend to the top again, but this time with the deck stacked against them. Team USA, led by captain Jim Courier, fields a singles duo of Mardy Fish and Andy Roddick along with doubles superstars Mike and Bob Bryan. The rubber will be played in Roddick’s hometown of Austin, Texas, a clear advantage for Team USA. Also, they will play on fast hardcourts, instead of the preferred clay upon which the Spaniards grew up playing. And most importantly, Spain will play without world #2 Rafael Nadal. I believe Team USA would go into this match-up confidently whether Nadal were playing or not. However, that he is not is a boon to Team USA. Even with David Ferrer and Feliciano Lopez, the American team should be the favorite on hardcourts playing in front of what should be a very vocal home crowd.
