With the retirement of my favorite golfer, Virada Nirapathpongporn, I am focusing on a handful of Thai golfers that are making a name for themselves. Nontaya Srisawang, Porani Chutichai, Ariya and Moriya Jutanugarn are among a new generation of great Thai players. But at the moment, I have my eye on Pornanong Phatlum. She is very accurate off the tee. Her driving distance isn’t very far, but improving her putting will go a long way in mitigating any lack of length. Her 2011 results are actually very good, especially when one considers that she hasn’t played as much as some other golfers. Through the Ricoh Women’s British Open, she has 5 top 25 finishes in only 9 events. So while she’s 55th on the money list through 9 events, she is 34th in scoring average. Waen (her nickname) just needs more opportunities to play and I’m sure she would be a top 30 player. I think she has the potential to be even better than that. Here is a video (in Thai…sorry) about Pornanong done a while ago.
