It sure didn’t look like Agnieszka Radwanska’s shoulder bothered her much in her convincing win over Vera Zvonareva to win the 2011 Mercury Insurance Open in Carlsbad. It was Agnieszka’s first win since 2008. An odd fact, Aggie has been in 7 finals in her WTA career, and faced Russian players in 6 of those finals including a loss last year in the 2010 Mercury Insurance Open final. Her court coverage was brilliant against Vera, almost seemingly knowing where shots were going before Vera even hit them. If only Radwanska had a bigger serve, she would truly be a threat to be consistently top 5. Without a big weapon, she has to rely on her amazing court generalship to be perfect to upset top ranked players like Vera. It was in the Carlsbad final. But to win on days she doesn’t have her A game, she will need a weapon to get her free points. Players like Kim Clijsters and Serena Williams aren’t always at 100%. But they have big shots that can get them some free points.
