Lexi Thompson
Lexi Thompson is already the youngest winner on the LPGA tour. She is one round away from becoming the 2nd youngest winner on the Ladies European Tour (Lexi is already older than Amy Yang was when she won the 2006 ANZ Ladies Masters). But like I said in my last post, a lot can happen in golf. One errant swing and a victory at the 2011 Omega Dubai Ladies Masters for Lexi can turn into a missed opportunity. Lexi was solid, but not spectacular in posting her 2-under 70 in round 3. She mixed in 4 birdies with 2 bogeys, including birdying 18 for the third round in a row to finish the third round at 10-under overall.
Sophie Gustafson
I am a bit torn going into the final round. I would love to see Lexi win, but there are other players in the field I’d like to see win as well. One of them, Sophie Gustafson, is right on Lexi’s heels 1 shot behind at 9-under. Sophie has had her own trifecta as well, birdying the par 5 3rd hole for three straight rounds. However, Sophie has not taken advantage of the par 5 finishing hole, as Lexi has done. Sophie is 1-over on the 18th hole. If it’s tight coming down to the finish between Lexi and Sophie, it might come down to 18. That could mean advantage Lexi.
