If there were any nerves trying to close out the 2012 Nishijin Ladies Classic, Maiko Wakabayashi didn’t show them, firing a solid 4 birdie, 1 bogey 3-under 69 final round to finish at 7-under overall, 2 shots ahead of 2nd place Hiromi Mogi. Mogi put a little heat on the leader with a clean 4 birdie 4-under 68 to finish at 5 under overall. But Maiko finished in style, birdying the par 3 16th and the par 5 18th for her margin of victory. It is Wakabayashi’s 2nd JLPGA title. Other notables finishes included 2-time defending JLPGA Player of the Year Sun Ju Ahn, who finished in a tie for 25th. Ahn has yet to win in 2012. Japanese fan favorites Sakura Yokomine and Chie Arimura finished in a tie for 20th and 8th respectively. Former LPGA player Soo-Yun Kang, winner of the 2005 Safeway Classic, finished in a tie for 12th.
