Martina Hingis at Roland Garros 2012
Martina Hingis knows a thing or two about what it takes to win a Major (Slam). She won 5 singles Majors during her Hall of Fame career. She also won 9 doubles and 1 mixed doubles Majors. Her 9 doubles Majors even includes a calendar year Grand Slam in 1998. Here she gives her thoughts on some of the favorites at Wimbledon 2012. Hingis won the Wimbledon ladies singles title in 1997, defeating Jana Novotna.
I have to agree with Patrick McEnroe and Mary Jo Fernandez. Roger Federer is indeed capable of winning another Major, but with Novak Djokovic and Rafael Nadal facing each other in 4 straight Major finals, R-Fed is going to need one of them to have a clunker and get upset early. I think the women’s side is wide open. There are 5 or 6 players I could see winning the title, maybe even a few more; Vika, Masha, Serena, Aga, Petra, even Wozniacki. Then there are some outside threats if they get hot like former finalist Marion Bartoli or even Li Na. Heck, who knows what shape Kim Clijsters might be in by Wimbledon. Nothing would shock me on the women’s side. And that’s terrific. It makes me want to see how that turns out even more. On the men’s side, it’s almost like I don’t even need to watch until the quarterfinals, maybe even the semis, because it’s going to be 2 of the same 3 in final…some combination of Djokovic, Nadal or Federer.

Will Sharapova follow up her Roland Garros title with a 2nd title at Wimbledon?
