Marion Bartoli Advances In 2nd Round Of 2012 AEGON International; Reflects On Wimbledon

Marion Bartoli

When the players hit the grass courts on the WTA, former Wimbledon finalist Marion Bartoli gets a smile on her face. She really loves the surface. She advanced in the 2nd round of the 2012 AEGON International (Eastbourne) with a 6-2 6-2 win over Aleksandra Wozniak. She also sat down to talk about her love of grass court tennis. I agree that clay court tennis emphasizes physical endurance. However, the idea that skill and talent is more apparent on grass courts…maybe. I actually think hard courts are more of an equalizer and gives more players a chance to display shotmaking. Perhaps this more apparent for the men on the ATP, but I think sometimes the speed of a grass court can sometimes allow a big server having a great day to upset a more overall talented player. Also, unlike hard courts, grass courts can have dead spots and uneven bounces. Nonetheless, I also love grass court tennis and would be thrilled to see Marion advance deep into the Wimbledon draw (so long as it doesn’t come at the expense of Kim Clijsters!) 🙂
