Nadia Petrova showed why she is so dangerous…and also vulnerable…in the final of the 2012 Toray Pan Pacific Open. In the first set she could do no wrong, hitting pin point laser shots that blazed past overwhelmed foe, world #3 Agnieszka Radwanska. It was a display that reminded us why she can be a giant killer, and why at one time Nadia herself was the #3 ranked player in the world. Then came the second set. Now, sports is capricious and momentum can swing at any moment. After steamrolling Aga 6-0 in the first set, Nadia had triple break point to go up a break in the second set and keep rolling. But Radwanska fought back from 0-40 down to eventually hold serve. Suddenly, the shots that were going in were spraying for Nadia as Aga turned the tables 6-1 in the second. Honestly, at that point I thought Petrova was done, that Aga would finish her in the third. Au contraire. It was a tight third set through 4-3 until Nadia finally held on to break Aga in the eighth game. One game later, the Russian star owned the biggest title of her career.

Singles – Final
