What a year it’s been for Shanshan Feng! Much like Inbee Park, Shanshan has split her time between the JLPGA and LPGA tours, not to mention a win on the Ladies European Tour for Shanshan. She added another huge accomplishment by winning the 2012 Japan Women’s Open, a JLPGA Major. This marks her second world Major following her triumph at the 2012 LPGA Championship. Feng also finished tied for 4th at the US Women’s Open. Her JLPGA Japan Women’s Open victory is her third JLPGA win of the year.
It was a tough week for scoring, as a national Open should be. Shanshan’s final round 3 birdie, 2 bogey 1-under 71 was enough to push her overall score to even par. That would mark the only scorecard from any player at even par. Everybody else was over par for the tournament. Shanshan won wire to wire as she opened with a first round 68. But the course and strong winds conspired to lead to 2nd and 3rd round 75 and 74 scores, respectively. Still, she was tied with Megumi Kido at 1-over after 3 rounds. However, it was not a great final round for Kido as she plummeted with a final round 80. With 3 wins and a Major, Shanshan now becomes a clear JLPGA Player of the Year candidate. If there were an award for world Player of the Year, she would lead hands down.
