Caroline Wozniacki Wins 2012 Kremlin Cup

Now this is the Caroline Wozniacki we’ve all missed seeing the last year or so. Well, almost. That she won the 2012 Kremlin Cup, to go along with her win in Seoul a few weeks ago, is a huge step in the right direction. Caro lifting trophies is a very familiar sight. However, while I want to celebrate her victory over Samantha Stosur, I also want to be cautious. Two tournament titles in two months is wonderful and should give her confidence going into 2013. But let’s also remember that the top players like Serena Williams, Victoria Azarenka, Maria Sharapova and others took the week off to prepare for the WTA Tour Championships in Istanbul, an event for which Caroline did not qualify. That would have been unthinkable at the beginning of the year. Remember that Woz was the #1 player in the world at the first Major of 2012. All of that said, she can only beat who is in front of her, and she did that in Moscow and Seoul. She’s playing a few too many 3 setters if you ask me. She needs to get through early rounds a bit more quickly. Still, overall I like what I’m seeing from the former #1. If she can continue this momentum and keep defeating players like Li Na and Stosur, as she has done recently, then I most definitely can see a reemergence in 2013. For now, congratulation to Caro on her 20th WTA singles title!
