Maria Sharapova stayed perfect through round robin play, beating alternate Samantha Stosur love and 3 en route to a date with year-end world #1 Victoria Azarenka in the semifinals. Vika clinched the year-end title with her win over Li Na, 7-6 (4) 6-3. Li Na had her chances in the first set, as she also did against Serena Williams, but let Azarenka off the hook. Speaking of Super Serena, don’t expect her to let anybody off the hook if she gets them down. Bottom line is the question at this tournament is whether anybody can stop Serena from taking the trophy. Forget about who is ranked #1 at year-end. Serena is #1. However, Agnieszka Radwanska will get the first chance in the semifinals. Remember, after getting overwhelmed early, Aga came back to give Serena a good match in the Wimbledon final. But I think most want a final between Serena and Masha or Vika. From a fan’s standpoint, I want Masha to take the title. But if she gets past Vika and faces Serena, will the memory of getting torched in the Olympic final be faded enough?
