United States Women’s National Team (Soccer) Completes Fan Tribute Tour With 4-1 Victory Over China

It’s been an amazing year for the United States Women’s Soccer Team. Following their Gold Medal at the 2012 London Summer Olympics they embarked on a successful Fan Tribute tour. That tour ended with a 4-1 victory over China. As should surprise nobody, Abby Wambach led the way with 2 goals. Both goals were on beautiful headers. Marta and Homare Sawa are great players, but is there any woman better at headers than Abby Wambach? This was the third in a series of 3 friendlies against China. It would have been nice to shut them out completely, but only 1 goal allowed in 3 games is pretty good, along with a 10-1 goal advantage over the Chinese team. And there was nothing Hope Solo could have done to prevent the goal in the third game. As it is, the US Women finished unbeaten on the Fan Tribute tour at 8-0-2. Hope, Abby, Alex, Shannon, Sydney, Megan and all of the great players on this team have earned a rest. I would also be remiss not to wish Pia Sundhage all the best in her coaching future, except when she plays the United States, of course! 🙂
