Victoria Azarenka, for all of Serena Williams’ brilliance, is still the #1 ranked women’s tennis player in the world. That’s probably an indictment of the ranking computer. Still, Vika can go a long way to reasserting her claim to the top spot with a win in Brisbane over Serena. That possible match-up is still in the future. But on Day 4 in Brisbane, Azarenka bested the dangerous Sabine Lisicki, 6-3 6-3. With all due respect to Vika’s quarterfinal opponent Ksenia Pervak and Serena’s quarterfinal opponent Sloane Stephens, Vika vs Serena is what everybody should want to see. Vika had the 2012 US Open on her racquet but couldn’t serve it out. She’s a lot closer to Serena than some might think. But does she deep down really believe that?
