Reigning World Team Tennis Women’s MVP Martina Hingis will leave the New York Sportimes and join the Washington Kastles in July 2013. Martina will replace Serena Williams, who will not play WTT this summer, on a Washington squad that includes Venus Williams, Leander Paes, Bobby Reynolds, Anastasia Rodionova and Murphy Jensen. The Washington Kastles are the 2-time defending champions of World Team Tennis, with 3 titles overall. Their last two titles were won with 16-0 undefeated seasons. With 32 straight team wins, they are 1 win shy of the professional sports team record of 33 straight wins by the 1971-72 Los Angeles Lakers. Although the loss of Serena for this summer might be a letdown for Kastles fans, adding 5-time Major singles and 9-time Major doubles winner Hingis should excite the Washington supporters.
