Maria Sharapova, Ana Ivanovic Advance In Third Round Of 2013 Sony Open

Things looked a little dicey for Maria Sharapova in the first set of her match with countrywoman Elena Vesnina in the third round of the 2013 Sony Open. Masha was sloppy while Vesnina had opportunities to seize the match. Unfortunately for Elena, once she didn’t capitalize on her opportunities, Masha reclaimed control, won the first set and cruised to victory, 6-4 6-2. Make no mistake, though…Sharapova came out flat but just had too much firepower for Vesnina. Also advancing was another of my favorites, Ana Ivanovic. I was actually a bit worried because her opponenet, Svetlana Kuznetsova, has been playing well lately. I would have considered it only a mild upset had Sveta beaten Ana. But she didn’t. Ana took care of business 6-3 6-3. Ivanovic is seeded 12th in Miami. It’s time that she makes a move to get into the top 10. She’s been hovering just outside for some time now. She needs to get some breakthrough wins and start consistently reaching semis. She has the talent to do it. Does she have the belief that she can do it?
