Earlier this week, Maria Sharapova was named Porsche Global Ambassador. As if scripted by Hollywood, Masha’s tournament run in Stuttgart came to fruition with a successful defense of her Porsche Grand Prix Tennis title. She had been pushed to 3 sets in her previous 3 matches, but it was all Sharapova in the final. The back to back 2012 and 2013 champion was in control throughout her final against Li Na, punctuating rallies with sizzling winners. Li Na didn’t play poorly. Actually, she had her moments to shine as well. Masha was just the clearly better player on this day. It’s interesting that going into last year, Sharapova wasn’t considered much of a clay court player. Oh how that opinion has changed with back to back Stuttgart titles, a title at Rome last year and the jewel in the crown, Roland Garros 2012. Masha has a lot of points to defend this year on clay. She’s off to a great start by defending Stuttgart.

Finals – Completed
1 2 3
M. Sharapova #1  « 6 6
L. Na #2 4 3
