Been away a little while dealing with medical issues, and thinking about something I’ll mention on my LPGA post. Let’s see what’s been going on since last I blogged. Hooray! Another tennis Major! Ah yes, for this lifelong tennis fan, it seems like Christmas comes four times a year (six if you count the men’s and women’s tour championships, which are not Majors). Roland Garros, one of my favorite tournaments…probably my favorite next to the US Open. Happily for me as a fan, two of my favorite players, Maria Sharapova and Ana Ivanovic, have both raised the trophy in Paris. Defending champion Masha needed two days due to rain, but finally defeated up an coming Eugenie Bouchard, 6-2 6-4. Ana, the 2008 women’s champion, took out Virginie Razzano, 6-3 6-2. Razzano upset Serena Williams in the first round last year. I don’t know if Masha or Ana…or anybody else, for that matter…can emerge as the winner this year with how well Serena is performing. But it’s sports and anything can happen.
