I must admit that I never…ever…thought I would write a blog entry about an LPGA player going for a Grand Slam. Somebody has to win the first Major of the year, the Kraft Nabisco Championship. But from there, the odds stack increasingly against said winner duplicating victory at the following Majors. Before this year, Annika Sorenstam was the last to win the first 2 Majors of the year, a feat she accomplished in 2005. Before Annika, the last winner of the first 2 LPGA Majors of the year was Pat Bradley in 1986. There have been a few others as well. So when Inbee Park pulled that off this year (2013), she accomplished a feat done only by a handful of players in LPGA history. How about 3 straight to start a calendar year? You have to go back all the way to 1950 and the legendary Babe Zaharias. Oh…and now a possible legend in the making, Inbee Park in 2013. What she has already accomplish this year is phenomenal, a career highlight by anybody’s measure. Yes, I consider it a Grand Slam even with Evian added as a fifth Major. Will Inbee go beyond and do what I thought to be unthinkable, winning the Grand Slam?
