I am a huge fan of women’s golf. Well, that’s obvious. I have put a lot of time and effort into this blog which highlights women’s tennis and women’s golf primarily, among a few other sports posts. But I have to be honest. I’ve been kind of drifting in and out of golf this year. I was turned off by Sergio Garcia’s fried chicken comment. I was bummed by Ariya Jutanugarn getting hurt when it looked like she was about to take off. Some of my favorite players are either struggling or settling for mediocre results. But…now I think finally I will get the shot in the arm I need to reignite my fairway fandom: Solheim Cup. It’s that time again, when Team Europe takes on the Winning Team…er, I mean…Team USA. LOL. Although Team USA leads the overall Solheim Cup standings 8 to 4, Team Europe comes in as the defending Solheim champion. They won that honor with a 15-13 victory in 2011 at Killeen Castle in Ireland. It won’t be easy to repeat that feat as the series shifts back to American soil. Team Europe has never won in the States. It’s difficult to predict what will happen this year. It always is. This year it is particularly so, with 4 Solheim rookies on the USA squad and 6 rookies on the European side, including 17-year old Charley Hull, the youngest player in Solheim Cup history.
