I hoped that the match up between Petra Kvitova and Venus Williams in the semis of the 2013 Toray Pan Pacific Open would live up to expectations. It certainly did. Venus came out firing, looking like the Venus of old. She grabbed the first set 6-3 showing the form that made her a champion. Petra had her on the run a few times but Venus displayed court coverage that few can. Kvitova turned the tables in the second set, fighting back to grab it 6-3. But it was in the third set tiebreak that Petra really came alive, turning a tight final set into a lopsided tiebreak win 7-6 (2). Aftet what had preceded the tiebreak, it was a letdown to see Venus only manage 2 points. Still, the match was filled with great play and lived up to expectations.
