Li Na thrilled the home fans with a lopsided 6-0 6-1 victory over Bojana Jovanovski on day four of the 2013 China Open. Bojana had been playing very well lately, so while I am a fan of Li Na it was a little disappointing to see Jovanovski lose so badly. But it’s sports and sometimes one team or player is on fire, When that happens, as an opponent you just have to tip your hat.
Petra Kvitova had me worried early on in her match against Varvara Lepchenko. After dropping the first set 2-6, it looked like one of those head scratching days when Petra comes out and doesn’t look like the great talent that she is. Maybe coming off a title at the 2013 Toray Pan Pacific Open she was a little unfocused and destined to be upset early in Beijing. No need to worry. Kvitova quickly reversed the deficit and stormed past Lepchenko in the final two sets, ultimately emerging victorious 2-6 6-2 6-0. With Andrea Petkovic knocking out Victoria Azarenka, the bottom half of the draw opens up. I’d love to see Petra Kvitova or Li Na come out of that side of the draw and potentially face Serena Williams (should she make it through) in the final,
