Jessica Korda Leads 2014 Pure Silk-Bahamas LPGA Classic After Round Two; Paula Creamer One Shot Back

The winds were whipping the course on day two of the 2014 Pure Silk-Bahamas LPGA Classic, but that didn’t stop Jessica Korda and playing partner Paula Creamer from torching the Ocean Club Golf Course on Paradise Island. Jessica would finish with 8 birdies against a lone bogey for a 7-under 66 (par is 73 at this event) that left her perched atop the leaderboard at 11-under overall. Afterwards, Jessica would credit Paula for inspiring her to such a great round, and with good reason. After a double bogey start on hole 1, Creamer put on a dazzling display with 10 birdies over the last 17 holes for an 8-under 65 round that nestled her into 2nd place at 10-under overall, 1 shot shy of Korda.

Paula tied Michelle Wie for low round of the day. Looking to recapture the form that made her a young phenom, Michelle matched Creamer’s 8-under 65 with a clean 8 birdie, no bogey effort. Wie’s day opened with three straight birdies on 10, 11 and 12 (she started on the back 9). She sits tied with Jenny Suh in 3rd place, two shots back at 9-under. Suh equaled Jessica Korda’s 7-under day. With Lizette Salas tied for 6th and Stacy Lewis tied for 10th, the first LPGA event of the season features 5 Americans in the top 10, including 4 Solheim Cup 2013 members, with 4 players (including a tie) in the top 3 spots. I don’t know if that will last until the end, but if it does it would be a nice opening act for the 2014 LPGA season.

As well as the field is shooting Stacy will have to shoot 2 ten under to win and the odds are against her.

  Waen is in the same boat as Stacy, tied for 10th at 6-under…it’s really not just trailing Korda by 5…that can be overcome…but there are so many players at the top with great scores that it’s unlikely…though not impossible…for all of them to be leapfrogged.
