Na Yeon Choi Leads 2014 Pure Silk-Bahamas LPGA Classic After Round Three

This is why I generally wait until the weekend to post LPGA tournament entries. So much can happen. Three rounds. Four different leaders. Meena Lee and Lydia Ko on day one. Jessica Korda on day two. Na Yeon Choi on day three. NYC, the 2010 LPGA Money List and Vare Trophy winner, had won at least one tournament every year from 2009 through 2012, with three out of four years winning twice. Although she played well in 2013, she didn’t reach the winner’s circle. She looks primed to return there in 2014. She’s been extremely sharp at this event, hitting all 14 fairways in the third round, as well as 16 of 18 greens in regulation. Her 7-birdie, no bogey 7-under 66 (par is 73 at this event) matched Lizette Salas, Amelia Lewis and Tiffany Joh for low round of the day. NYC sits atop the leaderboard at 15-under overall, 1 shot clear of Salas.

Right behind Lizette Salas are two more USA Solheim Cup teammates, including 2nd round leader Jessica Korda. Paired together for a third straight day, both Jessica and Paula Creamer had wild, rollercoaster day threes, but overall they found a way to keep themselves in contention on Sunday. Jessica was looking at a 1-over round (3 birdies, 2 bogeys, 1 double bogey) while the Pink Panther was staring down an even round (1 eagle, 3 birdies, 2 bogeys, 1 triple bogey) until both stuck 2nd shot approaches on the par 5 18th that both converted for eagle to push Jessica to 1-under and Paula, with a rare 2 eagles in one round, to 2-under. Paula’s 2 eagles will contribute $2,000 to the Wounded Warrior Project. I say it’s rare, and it is, but both Karine Icher and Amelia Lewis also had 2 eagles in round 3. Korda and Creamer are 3 shots back from NYC, but something tells me that after such up and down rounds one, if not both, of them will break out with a final round closer to their sensational 2nd round efforts.
