It has been a terrific year for Michelle Wie. Among the leaders in several statistical categories. Two time winner. A Major champion. A US Women’s Open champion. But after not being able to properly grip her club at the Meijer LPGA Classic, forcing a withdrawal, there was a feeling something was physically wrong. Unfortunately, Michelle has been diagnosed with a stress reaction in a bone in her right index finger (the picture above was taken in a mirror) which will require 3 to 5 weeks to heal, taking her out of several events including the Wegman’s LPGA Championship.
“Seven years ago, I would have tried to play through this injury and it is important to me not to make that mistake again. I feel more comfortable now listening to my body. And, while it’s hard to miss this stretch of events, I know I will be better suited to continue a great year and finish strong.” – Michelle Wie
I am relieved that Michelle did not suffer a more serious injury, but having her miss time during a great revival in her career is disappointing. And having one of my favorite athletes in all of sports injured at all is a bummer. However, hopefully she heals quickly and fully, returning in the fall to the high levels she displayed early this season.
