2015 Mutua Madrid Open Day 6: Petra Kvitova Advances To Semifinal Showdown With Serena Williams

The good news for Petra Kvitova is that after being away from the tour for a while this year with exhaustion, she finally seems to be back and playing well, getting all the way to the semifinals of the 2015 Mutua Madrid Open. That’s pretty impressive considering that she’s only reached the final of two clay court events in her career. Of her 15 titles, only 1 is on clay. However, that 1 title happens to have been at the 2011 Madrid event. The bad news for Petra is that awaiting her in this year’s Madrid semifinals is two-time champion Serena Williams. Not only is Kvitova 0-5 against Serena, but she’s only won 1 set in those 5 matches. I’ve long said that if she brings her A game, Petra Kvitova can beat anybody. I still believe those words. Her problem is you never know from match to match or even from set to set when that A game will show up. She will need it in the semis if she is to advance to her third ever clay court singles final.
