Yumiko Yoshida Wins 2015 Chukyo Television Bridgestone Ladies Open (JLPGA)

Patterns have been emerging as we move closer to the halfway point of the 2015 LPGA of Japan (JLPGA) season. At last week’s Hoken No Madoguchi Ladies Jae-Eun Chung of South Korea was on the precipice of winning, leading through two rounds before a stumble in round 3 cost her victory. For a second straight week, at the 2015 Chukyo TV Bridgestone Ladies Open, Jae-Eun was brilliant. Although she never slept on a lead as she did in her previous event, an argument could be made that she was even better this week. Chung carded 15 birdies against a lone bogey for the entire tournament. Unfortunately for her, it would not be enough. She would have to settle for 2nd place. Jae-Eun is having a terrific year with a pattern of great results emerging…but no victory yet. Speaking of a pattern of great results, former LPGA player Momoko Ueda of Japan has been even more consistently brilliant in 2015 on the JLPGA. She has finished out of the top 10 only once, and that was a very respectable 18th. Including Chukyo, Momoko has not been out of the top 4 in her last four events. Like Jae-Eun, Ueda has not been able to take that next step to her first victory of the season. Again this week, she would stand outside the winner’s circle in 3rd place. Instead, it would be Yumiko Yoshida breaking through with her first win of 2015, and 5th victory overall. As I mentioned, Chung notched 15 birdies against a lone bogey. You know what beats that? Yumiko Yoshida’s 16 birdies against a single bogey. Unlike Chung and Ueda, nobody saw this coming. It was by a country mile Yoshida’s best performance of the season. In fact, her last two events saw her card 13-over and 11-over scores respectively. Nevertheless, for three rounds in this event she broke through her recent pattern and finished alone at the top.

    • You are correct…I am amazed at the popularity of the tour in Japan. The galleries are very impressive. 🙂
