In-Gee Chun Wins 2015 US Women’s Open, Third Time She’s Won Major As First Victory On A Golf Tour

In-Gee Chun made it 3 for 3 when it comes to winning a Major as her first victory on a top tier professional golf tour. In 2013 she won the Korea Women’s Open as her first title on the LPGA of Korea (KLPGA). Earlier this year, she took top honors at the 2015 World Ladies Championship Salonpas Cup on the LPGA of Japan ( JLPGA). It was her first ever JLPGA tournament as well as her first victory in Japan. The 20-year old Chun finished the trifecta with the 2015 US Women’s Open title, a Major on the United States based LPGA. In-Gee becomes the first player since Birdie Kim (2005) to win the US Women’s Open in her debut at the biggest event in Women’s golf. Kim hasn’t won since then, but something tells me that won’t be the case with Chun. Watching her 4-under 66, highlighted by a brilliant back 9 including 4 clutch birdies, I have no doubt she will win again. She did bogey 18, but when Amy Yang did the same In-Gee’s 8-under overall was enough for a 1 shot final advantage and a potentially life-changing win. If the back 9 of a Major on Sunday is the greatest test in golf then Chun not only passed with flying colors, she demonstrated that she is the next great Seoul Sister. Hers is the 10th victory on the LPGA so far in 2015 by a South Korean golfer. It’s also the 8th South Korean win at the US Women’s Open, the first of which was Se Ri Pak’s seminal victory in 1998. In-Gee is a long way from being in Se Ri’s league, but she’s pretty special in her own right.

    • Sorry, hadn’t been checking blog…needed a break after Wimbledon. I’m considering going to the USWO next year. I’ll be sure to let you and a few others know if I do
