The 2015 Dongfeng Motor Wuhan Open is already underway. I’ll cover the winner this upcoming weekend. But before that, I’d like to take a look at the opening ceremony and player party. Notably, the highlight for me was seeing 2-time Major winner and new mommy, Li Na, acting as a host for the event. The retired Li is a native of Wuhan, China. She was joined at the opening ceremony by her great friend, and 2-time Wimbledon champion, Petra Kvitova. This tournament also marked the return of Maria Sharapova, who had been inactive due to injury since Wimbledon. However, her comeback was short lived as she retired in the third set of her match with Barbora Strycova with a left forearm injury. Hopefully, it’s just stress from being out so long, but for now Masha is giving no timetable for her next match. She hopes to be ready for the WTA Finals and the Fed Cup final pitting Russia against the Czech Republic.
