It was off to the Place de la Concorde for Roland Garros 2016 Women’s Singles Champion Garbine Muguruza. The 22-year old Spanish/Venezuelan player is the new world #2 and the first Spanish woman to win the singles title at Roland Garros since Arantxa Sanchez-Vicario. Hall of Famer Sanchez, the Barcelona Bumblebee as the late, great Bud Collins called her, won the singles title in Paris 3 times. Mugu certainly has the tools to win more Majors. But that’s a question for later. For now, let the new champion bask in the glow of her first Major victory.
