Not only will there be a first time women’s singles champion at Roland Garros in 2017, whichever player is the last woman standing will be a first time Major champion. The top half of the draw has determined the first four quaterfinalists – Caroline Wozniacki, Kristina Mladenovic, Timea Bacsinszky and Jelena Ostapenko. Wozniacki, a former world #1, is the most accomplished and has played in two US Open finals. Mladenovic has been among the best players in 2017 with 1 title and 3 runners-up. Bacsinszky has reached the Roland Garros women’s singles semifinals and quarterfinals the past two years. Ostapenko was runner-up at Charleston this year and has beaten Wozniacki 3 times in her career. Any of those 4 could be in the final. If there is any separation between them it might be the French crowd, which seemed to unnerve Garbiñe Muguruza in her match against Mladenovic. Kiki could ride their support to the final.
