Team Bucie solidified their position as the best women’s doubles pair in the world, taking out Ashleigh Barty and Casey Dellacqua 6-2 6-1 to win Roland Garros 2017. Without a doubt, Lucie Šafářová and Bethanie Mattek-Sands should one day enter the International Tennis Hall of Fame together. This is their 2nd Roland Garros title, their 5th overall Major and their 3rd straight Major title. A championship at Wimbledon, the only Major they have not won, would give them the Team Bucie Slam…they would hold all four Majors at the same time. My #1 rooting interest at Wimbledon will be Madison Keys in singles, but right behind her will be Team Bucie in doubles.
Jeļena Ostapenko began her new life as a Major champion with the winner’s photoshoot. It will be interesting to see how the rest of her year unfolds. I think fans should be patient and give her time. Li Na and Garbiñe Muguruza both won Roland Garros and then struggled for awhile. If 20 year old Ostapenko makes a deep run at Wimbledon, then great. But if she doesn’t even reach another final this year that’s okay, too.
