I am sticking with Caroline Wozniacki through thick and thin. I just didn’t think it would get this thin. The former world #1 played an exciting, but ultimately losing, match against Bojana Jovanovski in the first round of the 2013 Internazionali BNL d’Italia, 2-6 6-4 7-6 (5). Bojana is a player, still young at 21, from whom big things have been expected. That said, she hasn’t won a main draw match since January. Let me repeat that…JANUARY! Caroline has to win this match. No excuses. Wozniacki was up a set and a break. She was up 4-0 in the 3rd set. She was up 5-2 in the tiebreak. Dropping a match like this is worrisome. I still think there is great tennis left in Caroline…and one day maybe a Major. But I’ve been wrong before.
The big Serena Williams vs Laura Robson match went pretty much as I thought. Laura has major talent, but is not ready for Serena at this stage of her career. 6-2 6-2 is about right for this contest. Laura shouldn’t feel down about this. She will learn. I think she turned a corner in Madrid and just was snakebitten by drawing Serena in the second round at Rome. If Robson can get a decent draw at Roland Garros she can make some noise.
