What a tug of war the 2015 LPGA of Japan (JLPGA) season has been. As soon as I think Bo-Mee Lee is running away with the year, Teresa Lu makes a charge. When I start to think Teresa can catch up, Bo-Mee reasserts her dominance. These two tour aces have been a lot of fun to watch battle it out this season (along with In-Gee Chun making a couple of Major cameos). Lee captured her 5th tour win last week at the Stanley Ladies. Not to be outdone, Lu answered by winning this week’s 2015 Fujitsu Ladies. Teresa didn’t just win, she grabbed hold of this event from the opening round and wouldn’t let go. Her opening round 5-under 67 was the only sub-70 performance on day 1. She followed with an amazing 7-under 65 on day 2. Going into the final round, Lu sat at 12-under. Only Ayaka Watanabe at 8-under had a realistic chance but even she would need Teresa to stumble. Behind Ayaka, Bo-Mee was in third, but 8 shots back at 4-under. Unfortunately, Bo-Mee would go 2-over 74 to close and fall out of the top 10, landing at a tie for 12th. Teresa didn’t have to be sensational in round 3, and she wasn’t with 5 bogeys against 4 birdies, although she did drop in a clutch eagle putt on 16 to put the stamp on 1-under 71 round and a 13-under 4 shot victory. Bo-Mee might go on to take all the accolades via year-end trophies, and she would deserve them, but in my eyes I wish they could name two Players of the Year or somehow split the award in half. Teresa has been so good this year it would be a shame if in time people looked back and just saw Bo-Mee as POY and forgot just how wonderful a season Lu has turned in.
