Petra Kvitova To Face Caroline Wozniacki In Dubai 2013 Semifinals

After the withdrawals of Serena Williams and Victoria Azarenka from the 2013 Dubai Duty Free Tennis Championships, I called Agnieszka Radwanska the favorite to win. Well, that lasted less than 48 hours as Petra Kvitova earned her biggest win in recent memory, taking Aga out, 6-2 6-4. I’m not really that surprised. Even though I called Radwanska the favorite, I have also said many times on this blog that I feel Petra Kvitova, when she plays her A game, is the most talented player on tour. Problem is that her A game doesn’t always show up. But let’s not forget that she was the 2011 WTA Player of the Year. This is a great opportunity for her to pick up a Premier level title.

The problem for Petra is that waiting for her in the semifinals is former #1 Caroline Wozniacki. This is also a great opportunity for Caro. This is one of those classic match-ups of opposing styles; with Petra trying to dictate with her power and Wozniacki using her defense to get everything back and frustrate Kvitova into mistakes. I can’t wait to see how this one goes. Caroline had a much harder semi, outlasting Marion Bartoli 4-6 6-1 6-4. I don’t think that will affect the semifinal match, however. I think the barometer is which Petra comes out. If she keeps the errors to a reasonable level or below, she beats Caro. If Petra’s shots are loose and she gives up too many free points, it’s Caro’s victory.
