If you don’t follow the WTA tour on a weekly basis, you might not be aware of how good Anett Kontaveit is/has become. The rising 21-year old Estonian, who speaks English with a British accent, was runner up in Biel, Switzerland and hit #1 ranked Angelique Kerber off the court in Rome. For sure, defending Roland Garros champion Garbiñe Muguruza knows how good Kontaveit is. Anett beat Muguruza in Stuttgart a few weeks ago before losing in the quarterfinals to the comebacking Maria Sharapova. It was a three setter in Stuttgart between Kontaveit and Muguruza. So it was again in the second round of Roland Garros 2017, but this time it was Garbiñe emerging victorious, 6-7 (4) 6-4 6-2. This was a very solid and impressive win for the defending champion. There are still potential roadblocks in her quarter, but this victory should give her a confidence boost.
